Fun Elf on the Shelf Ideas

Did I mention how much my boys {and I} love our Elf on the Shelf?  My 6 year old even drew this picture of "Elfie", and asked him to bring it to Santa.  How cute is that????

Searching for Elfie each morning has really become a treasured part of our holiday traditions.  So, I thought I would share a little bit of what our Elf has been up to so far this year.

First, Elfie got his own Magic Elf Key... which I ordered from the North Pole.  {wink}  You can read all about it and get your own (free) key-tag printable here

Magic Elf Key

Then, he arrived with a present for us... Magic Elf Seeds.  {So much fun!}  You can read all about the magic here.

Magic Elf Seeds

Since his arrival, he has been a busy elf...  drawing pictures, taking naps, and flying all over our house when we aren't looking.  Take a look at some of his antics.

Do you have an Elf on the Shelf?  I would love to hear about the fun you are having with him/her.

  1. Thanks for sharing Gina! Our Elf's name is Freddie & I have a photo album of pics on my fb account. Things have been hectic lately though so my ideas aren't very creative most days. lol Love your ideas & your son's drawing for Santa!

  3. Hi Gina,

You're so adorable as well as your Elfie posts I feel compelled to comment. I read your post about the Elf on a Shelf a few weeks ago and it sparked my memory of when I had these adorable little guys when I was young. So off I went to purchase an Elf for my daughter (my mom was insisting my daughter would not like). It turned out quite the opposite~ love at first site. Did I mention my daughter is 19 and at college. Hehe She had the best time naming him! Today Finnie sits atop her shelf in her dorm room keeping an eye on all the students!! You're never too old for an Elf on the Shelf!
Keep up all the good work on your blog~I love reading everyday~ the boys are adorable!! My kids are grown so I miss those days of all the fun activities especially around the holidays!
    Have a great holiday~

    1. I agree, we actually have one at our office and use it (the Elf) as a way to acknowledge and treat staff! we have so much fun with it and this year that we are actually have translated it into a fun way to send a holiday treat to our clients - we are sending them Elf cookies with a picture of their account team holding our elf at work, looking like he is baking cookies!

the elf on the shelf is the best... I wish I had it as a kid

  8. Lol!!! My mom bought our elf in the 1960s and he sat on a gold star and hung from the chandelier in the dining room. I've always loved that elf, so when I got a chance to get one from a yardsale, I did. Under a dollar. I didn't know he had returned and was so popular, but with that face ?? Of course he did!

    1. You realize that the Elf from the 60s is not the same as the Elf on the Shelf. Elf on the shelf is the character in the book by the same name, written and published by a mother and her daughter in Marietta, GA. Since it was introduced a few year ago other products have evolved and last year a movie made for TV premiered. If you have not read the book you need to find a copy. It is an adorable story.

  10. Just be careful with the light fixtures. Our Alvie, suffered a severe burn to his leg. Luckily he is now wearing a green outfit as requested by my son.

    1. Yikes! My boys would be devastated. I was careful not to let him touch the actual light, but now I will be extra careful. :-)

    2. I love this blog! I just wanted to share an elf injury story too! Our 6 month old beagle at the time got ahold of "Gizmo" last year! Needless to say our son was devastated. The darn dog chewed his poor little face right off!!!! Well, I assured our boy that Santa could and would fix him right up that night! Thankfully our Barnes and Noble had a new elf and held it until midnight when I got out of work and the next morning Gizmo had a bandage on his head BUT his cute little face was good as new! That night Gizmo spent 2 hr's painting all the white spots on the puppy green with JELLO!!! We all got a big kick out of it, well all of us except the beagle! :P

  12. Our family has a fantastic time with our elf, too. On Christmas morning, the elf will leave a trail of M & M's leading to the den, which he toilet papered in the middle of the night. We sure do miss when he flies back to the north pole :)

  15. We just got our elf last year, his name is "Rocky" My grandkids LOVE waking up each morning to see what Rocky has done. He is a little more mischievious than the other elves. He did toliet paper our living room, watched movies and had popcorn all over the house, ate cookies and so on. It was so much fun and I can't wait for Rocky to come back.

  16. Oh this is great! I love the elf seeds and the tissue paper nap. Our Elf named Joq (my daughter is a Cinderella nut) was a gift from one of her aunts. One night while she was sleeping Joq "borrowed" a Barbie and one of her cars and they went on a date. THAT didn't go so well. She was not happy he asked her doll out! LOL AND one night we made graham cracker houses and he sat atop one of them with a half-eaten graham cracker in his hands and icing all over his face. Good times.

  17. Love these ideas! Thanks for sharing. I like these a lot better than the "naughty" things I've seen folks do with their elves. Kind of counter-productive, if we're trying to get the kids to be good IMHO.

  18. Last year, our elf made a snow angel in sugar on the kitchen counter. It was really funny. On a few occassions, elf has too much eggnog the night before and is too tired to move around the house. Oh well!

  19. We have our very own elf too. We started by first naming him, we googled elf names and agreed on Onas (o-nas) He was quite fun. He drew faces on our family picture, dyed our milk green, had a tea party, stole strawberry shortcakes car, went fishing in the fish tank, sit on the toilet, crepe papered the house, He sit on morning on the fan, and later that day accidently went for a fly..the next morning he was found with bandaides, ice pack laying down resting. As the magic elf hider I am always looking for more ideas.

  20. Very cute! Great ides! We have an elf as well, and I love to see what other elves are up to! I blog about our elf's antics at www.twotiarasandasword.blogspot.com but you have to go back in the archives to last December, and then I will blog again this year when she comes back to visit. I love the very special memories that we are able to make with our children and the elves!

  22. My son has to wear school uniforms, and we always organize 5 sets for the week to come. This morning, his uniforms were missing, and in their place, all red and green clothing and scarves, mittens, etc... He thought that was pretty funny.

  27. Hi, one of my daugther's and I were looking at the different thinks you had on your sight for scouts to do and we found your Elf. She has an elf but not like yours. He has been up to a lot of things for a year now, working on our second year. He flies around the house all the time. We have a lot of fun with him. She is sure glad that Santa did not take him back home with him this year. She spells her elf's name Elffy. In Girl Scout they are working on their first journy book in Brownie's and it is about a elf. Enjoy your elf. Have a good new year, and I hope your elf does not get into to much.
